Right now I have a number of stones setting on my bench… okay, those of you who know me well know I always have a few stones sitting on my bench, but this is different, honest. Okay, yes, I have an addiction to stones, there I said it.  And I spent a bit of money on some new stones this month.

Two of the stones have already been set in new work.  And the others are calling to me… I have always had a fascination with rocks. And if they sparkle, all the better.  I love cut stones, not much can beat the sparkle of a well cut faceted stone.  But uncut, natural stones, here is where my current fascination lies.

The smokey quartz crystal is how it came out of the ground.  It is from Montana and has not been polished or cut.  When I started looking at it to determine how to set it, I realized there was still dirt caught in the crystals on the back than had never been cleaned out.

The piece has an open back to show off the crystal structure on the back of the stone. When I get back from Oregon I hope to set a couple more of the new stones…
